The History of Aloe Vera
For centuries, Aloe Vera and its Medical cousins have been used extensively in many cultures because of their apparently magical effectiveness for treating burns, healing wounds and relieving aches and pains, including the
"heartbreak of psoriasis" where, when used regularly, it
reduces scaling and itching, greatly improving
appearance. Historical documents of the
Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Algerians,
Moroccans, Tunisians, Arabians, Indians and
Chinese report of its use for both medicinal and
cosmetic purposes. According to numerous
traditions, Cleopatra attributed her
irresistible charm and beauty to the use
of Aloe gel.
The earliest recording is 1500 B.C. in the
Papyrus Ebers, the original copies of which are
safeguarded in Leipzig University. These Egyptian
papers state that the many medicinal values of Aloe were widely acclaimed and had been for many centuries before. The author of the famed Greek Herbal, Dioscorides of the first century A.D. made a lengthy, detailed report of its many applications for wounds, binding, insomnia, stomach disorders, pain, constipation, hemorrhoids, itching, headache, loss of hair, mouth and gum diseases, kidney ailments, blistering skin care, sunburn, blemishes, etc.
