Breast Cancer, Alzheimer's disease - a 'false alarm'

Claims circulating on the internet that there are established links between antiperspirants and breast cancer have been refuted by The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) of the United States.

CTFA president L. Howard Kavanauer issued a statement to agents which read in part: According to the American Cancer Society there have been many extremely thorough epidemiology studies of breast cancer risk and they have not found antiperspirant use to be a risk factor for breast cancer, much less the 'leading cause' of the disease."

He further stated" "There is no evidence of harm from the use of antiperspirants (which) are safe and consumers should not be alarmed." He pointed out that "anonymous e-mails" was usually "unsubstantiated and had no factual basis." (http://www.ctfa.org)

Manufacturer, Intersol Limited take this opportunity to assure customers that Day'n Nite antiperspirants deodorants are safe, gentle and reliable. There is no evidence of links to breast cancer. Research into possible effects of aluminium or Alzheimer's disease are still tenuous and as yet inconclusive.

Antiperspirant - easy on sensitive skin

The majority of people who bathe regularly will have no problems when using a top quality antiperspirant deodorant to combat the odour caused by bacterial action in their underarms. Wearing lightweight clothing in our tropical climate will also ensure a fresh feeling.

However, some persons may find that a particular product causes a sensitive or an allergic reaction. In such cases, a doctor should be consulted. However, alcohol free roll-ons like Day'n Nite are usually so mild and gentle that this is rare.

In extreme cases, some individuals may also find that their sweat is not being controlled and their body odour is overpowering. They also need to seek medical advise.

Professor Derek Bryce-Smith of Reading University, England, has found that such persons can have very low zinc levels, in which case taking a supplement or a multi-vitamin which includes that mineral can help. Some medications and medical diseases may also increase body odour.

The type of diet being eaten may also impact on the odour of your sweat, especially if it is very high in animal fats, sugars and alcohol. Increased consumption of vegetables, fruits, peas, beans and legumes and drinking good quantities of water and juices may also help in combating excessive body odour .
